Interview with Steven Brughmans and Thomas Udesen: the TfS PCF Guideline, its implications, benefits and opportunities

In an interview with Rebecca Coons, Senior Editor of Chemical Week, Steven Brughmans, Senior Vice President Global Direct & Logistics Procurement BASF, and Thomas Udesen, Global Head of Procurement Bayer, talk about the TfS PCF Guideline. They shed light on its implications, benefits and opportunities, highlighting what it delivers and which needs it meet.

Launched in September 2022 and updated in November 2022 to cover also Corporate Accounting and Reporting, this robust, fully open-source PCF Guideline allows suppliers and companies to calculate PCFs and Corporate Scope 3 Category 1 (Scope 3.1 – purchased goods and services) GHG emissions.

Steven and Thomas also share their experience in rolling the PCF Guideline out in their organization and describe its impact on their corporation, suppliers and customers.

The roll-out of the PCF Guideline is supported by the TfS Academy, a platform providing multiple learning paths and training courses to support procurement teams, suppliers and others in implementing the PCF Guideline into their organisations.

Finally, Steven and Thomas  introduce an important next step: the pilot and launch of the IT solution in 2023, which will allow the sharing of PCFs between suppliers and customers.

Most companies are aware not enough is happening to reach their targets with regard to the Paris Climate Agreement. But the PCF Guideline and sharing solution will be an important enabler for responsible players to successfully come through this “Decade of Action”. – Thomas Udesen
