  • Session 12 – Driving decarbonisation in supply chains (e.g. chemicals): Standardising the Product Carbon Footprint
    T
    iming: 11:00am GMT
    Format: Panel presentations and Q&A

The right supply chains management can significantly contribute to a company’s decarbonisation efforts. Scope 3 (upstream) greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions constitute a major share of a chemical company’s emissions. Calculating the carbon footprint of products provides the best product-level information for identification, tracking and reducing scope 3 GHG emissions in the industry. Together for Sustainability developed a Product Carbon Footprint Guideline that standardises the way PCFs are calculated in the chemical industry and beyond.

Of course, implementing the TfS PCF Guideline into companies creates challenges and opportunities. The session provides the perspective and experience from both a SME as of 2 large companies, makes you understand the importance of standardisation in the way PCFs are calculated in the chemical industry and beyond, and how to roll out the TfS PCF Guideline with a company’s supplier’s base.

Sharing experience should motivate other procurement professionals to also apply this standard into their companies and motivate their suppliers to use the Guideline to share their PCFs.

Speakers include:

Robert Kreische, Head of Research & Development Dr Schnell, will represent the SME experience/perspective

Alessandro Pistillo, Director Digital Strategic Project BASF and Co-Chair of the TfS Scope 3 GHG emissions programme will present the TfS PCF Guideline as a global standards and associated benefits, and Dr Verena Buback, Head of Sustainable Procurement Merck Group and Co-Chair TfS Scope 3 GHG emissions programme, will present the roll-out of the PCF Guideline with a company’s suppliers and share tips for procurement professionals.

Session moderators are Thomas Heine, Co-Chair of SPP Germany and Peter Köhne, Co-Chair of SPP Germany and CPO of Speira (former Norsk Hydro).

Both sessions are conducted in English.
